The camera powers on, but a yellow light flashes and none of the functions work. An error E42 appears on the screen. I have to remove the battery to shut it down. I've tried a different battery and different memory card. What is an E42 error? What will it take to repair it?

@marksalvatore the E42 is usually indicative of a lens error. If your camera lens can't extend or retract then your camera will display a E42 error. Try the ideas from here. Should that fail, you may have to replace the lens. For that use this guide Canon PowerShot SX530 HS 렌즈 교체

Thank you for your response. I tried all the methods in a video found in the link. After a couple of days of trying different things, suddenly the camera started working again. I don't know what method worked, but it's fixed. Thank you for the information.
