The Optoma HD72 is a home theater projector that has 720p resolution. Released January 2006, Identified by model number HD72 and manufactured in Taiwan.

Optima HD72 Incompatible with Multi Channel AV Receiver

We just upgraded our Multi Channel AV Receiver. With our old receiver, we could only either get sound or picture, but not both. When they installed the new Multi Channel AV Receiver, the same thing is happening and we are being told it is because the Optima HD72 is out of date and incompatible. How do we know this is the truth and not just a simple fix?

Hi @leestirriup

What is the make and model number of the receiver?

What connection type is being used between the receiver and the projector and between the signal source and the receiver?

Sony STR-DH790 is the new receiver. Our theater room has been wired for it, so I can't tell you exactly how. We have the current projector mounted on the ceiling with connectors and then all sorts of wires coming out of the wall for the components.

Hi @leestirriup

You should be able to connect the speakers to the receiver as well as the projector and have audio from the speakers and video from the projector.

Where to connect everything on the receiver depends on what type of signal source and connection your using for the video/audio e.g. AV cable or HDMI and also what type of connections are provided in the wall for the speaker and how many speakers e.g. stereo or surround sound and the projector. I'm assuming the projector uses HDMI as this receiver doesn't have an AV or Component video output, only HDMI.

The receiver's user manual explains how to set it up.

The projector will need to be connected to the TV Out HDMI connector and the speakers to their appropriate terminals - see p.12
