The HP ProBook 445 G8 is a 14-inch business laptop. Released around 2021, it is part of HP's "400" series

Black screen and blinking Caps-lock

I have an HP ProBook 445 G8 from 2021 or 2022 running Windows 11. I've ran into an issue where the system won't boot, instead giving me a black screen, the light of the F5-key (mute) is on and the Caps-lock key blinks 5 times slow, then the fans start audibly spinning.

I have already tried putting the RAM stick in the other slot (a friend of mine with the same system had a similar issue when the RAM turned out to be loose) but to no avail. It also sometimes does boot (I haven't found a pattern to that) but it doesn't take long for it to cut to black again. Lastly I have found that the laptop will often boot after hitting the left half of the keyboard.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you very much in advance.

@overstay the 5 blinks is commonly an BIOS error. I would try a BIOS recovery. With the computer off, hold the Windows Key + B down simultaneously, then press the power button for 2-3 seconds to trigger a BIOS recovery. et us know what you find out.

Also, hang on to the HP ProBook 445 G8 Maintenance And Service Guide since we may need this in case we got to go deep into the weeds :-)

The keybind didn't work for me, but by finicking a bit with the battery and CMOS battery I had managed to get it to boot and run some built in diagnostics which all returned OK. I was also able to get into Windows but the laptop usually gave a black screen when moved or a certain part was pressed (changed around a bit), after which it immediately rebooted. Now it is doing the blinking again.

I think there might be something loose on the other end of the board but don't have the time right now to fully disassemble the machine.
