@jesselaing18993 what exact year is your Vibe? Does it overheat?

@jesselaing18993 first you will need to find out if this is caused by a bad fan motor or a circuit issue (like a bad relay, fuse, or temperature sensor). The easiest way to to do that is by getting the have force the computer (PCM) to turn on the cooling fans without having to wait for the enigine to heat up until the fans should kick in, is to use the air conditioning system. Do this:

  1. Start your Vibe and let it idle.
  2. Turn the climate control fan speed to high, and turn the AC ON.
  3. Now look under the hood at the radiator. Both cooling fans should immediately spin up.
  4. If both fans spin: Your fan motors, main relays, and fuses are working. If your Vibe only overheats when the AC is turned off, your issue is likely the engine coolant temperature sensor or its relay control.
  5. If only one fan spins: The non-spinning fan motor is likely burned out.

NOw, if none of the fans spin you want to go ahead and check the fuses and the fan relays. Since we do not know the exact year we can't tell you exactly which fuse numbers to check but there will be one fuse for each one. Consult your owners manual. Looks like the Vibe has 3 cooling fan relays. You can swap an identical relay (the Horn relay should be the same) and substitute that for the fan relay, if your fan now functions you know you are having a bad relay.

The only other thing I can think of to check is the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor. Locate the sensor on your engine. With the engine idling, unplug the electrical connector from the temperature sensor. The cars computer should detect the open circuit, turn the Check Engine Light on, and immediately switch the radiator fans to run at maximum speed. If the fans turn on you know that your wiring harness, relays, and fan motors are working as should. The issue is most likely that the ECT sensor has failed and needs to be replaced.

In general, cooling fans will not run at all if ac doesn't turn on. On aging vehicles, the main reason ac fails is the leak no one wants to or cannot attempt diagnosing but will run to the store for the refill kits. When enough refrigerant leaks out, the ac pressure sensor protects against compressor damage from lack of refrigerant lubrication. Refrigerant moves oil thru the system, eventually returning to lube the compressor. Lose refrigerant and the pressure sensor sends a disable signal to the engine computer from powering up the compressor. Even if the ac light is on, if the compressor doesn't run at all, cooling fans will not turn on. Ac system logic; loss of refrigerant, no compressor operation, no cooling fans. However, normal cooling system with a temperature sensor will cycle cooling fans when needed, regardless of ac failure.
