@johnfranci30919 you did not tEll us what you have have already checked. You need to make sure that you actually have ink in your cartridge and tha tthis is not related to some sort of software driver issue. If all of those things are okay then the issue is most likely related to clogged nozzles or a bad print head. Start off by running a Print Head Cleaning either through the Epson software on your computer or by holding down the printer's Stop button.

First thing you want to do is check if those ink nozzles are clogged up. Here is how you get that done:

1. Run a Nozzle Check and Head Cleaning Before printing or taking anything apart, you should always check if the ink nozzles are clogged:

  • Manual Method: Turn the printer on. Press and hold the Stop button (the triangle inside a circle) for about 5 to 7 seconds until the power light starts blinking. Release it, and the printer will run a cleaning cycle.
  • Computer Method: Open up the Control Panel and find your Epson L3110. Go to Printing Preferences ==> Maintenance. Run a Nozzle Check to see exactly which colors are missing on you. If the black is missing or faint, go ahead and run a Head Cleaning.

One other thing you want to check is that the EcoTank printers are prone to airlocks. Look closely at the transparent black ink tube that leads from the tank to the printhead. If you see visible empty gaps (air) instead of solid black ink, you need to flush the system. To fix that you will need to perform an "Initial Ink Charge" or power flush through the Epson Utility software on your PC.

To work on your printer, downloads the SM from here Epson EcoTank L3110 under the Documents header

Adding to this as OT03 got all of my checks. Do a nozzle check, if you see air stop at the basic cleaning - the L3110 and the low end ET- units in this chassis count the WIC in NVRAM. Don't power clean it - take the dummy carts out and suck them out with a syringe to save the pad.

I despise the cleaning method on cartridge Epsons as it kills pads and cartridges (which hard stopped it on so many models until they added black only/color restricted "emergency" mode like the rest of the world), but on these there's so much ink that you can do it. Also Epson needs to take the pro line auto cleaning they brought to the 8500/8550 and let owners cry about it - you use ink on paper keeping them prime, or in cleanings into the pad (which can be replaced on most of these, so power cleanings are a valid option with the chipped pad).
