How to fix electric power steering

A 2006 Ford F-150 does not use electric power steering, it uses a hydraulic power steering system. If the steering feels heavy or the assist is gone, I'd start by checking the basics before replacing parts.
First check the power steering fluid level and condition. If it's low, look for leaks around the pump, hoses, steering rack/gear, and connections. A whining pump usually points toward low fluid or a failing pump.
If the fluid is good, check the serpentine belt. The belt drives the power steering pump, and a loose or slipping belt can cause the steering assist to disappear. If the pump is making noise or not building pressure, it may need replacement.
I'd also check the steering linkage and front suspension if the truck is hard to steer even with good hydraulic pressure. Tie rods, ball joints, and worn components can make it feel like a power steering problem.
Before throwing parts at it, figure out whether you're losing hydraulic assist or if something is physically binding. That saves a lot of money on these trucks.

Hi @aletheaobey
Please confirm the year and model of your Ford vehicle?
Reason is no 2004-2008 F150 model has electric power steering, they all have hydraulic power steering.
Ford F-150 only had electric power steering from 2011 onwards

@aletheaobey while you are clarifying the exact year and model of your F-150, why don't you go ahead and tell us exactly what issues you are having with your steering. What have you already checked and what have you already tried?
