Background and Identification
The 5th generation of Honda Accord was released in 1993. However for the first time in the model's history, there were two versions for the Accord—one for North America and Japan and one for Europe, so the specs were different. The North American version was the 'CD' chassis and the European model was based on the previous fourth-generation 'CB' Accord—it was actually the Japanese Honda Ascot Innova. It was also the first Accord to be built and sold in the Philippines.
The North American/Japanese version saw several updates including more interior room, a longer wheelbase, and a 2.2 liter 4 cylinder motor with VTEC technology, according to Motor Trend. In 1994 it had an update for the 1995 model with a V6 engine in the U.S. market. This was available only in the LX and EX models of the sedan.
The Honda Accord 5th Generation was designed by Yukio Kurosu and Kohichi Hirata in Japan but the cars were assembled in various locations around the world. The three trim types available in the U.S. were the DX, LX and EX while in Canada they offered the LX, EX and EX-R. Honda offered a sedan, coupe and wagon version of the car. In 1995, they did an update to the 1996 model year, which gave it a softer and rounded look. There were new signal and tail lights, bumpers and a new fascia.
