Background and Identification

Philips is a prominent technology company that supplies a variety of electronics, including devices for the household, health, lighting, sound & vision, automotive, etc. Philips was founded in 1891 by Gerard and Frederik Philips as a light bulb company. Philips today is headquartered in Amsterdam but supplies electronics worldwide.

Among Philips home electronics are Philips DVD players. Philips makes both traditional DVD and Blu-ray players that connect to TVs as well as portable DVD players that have built-in screens. Philips DVD players, or media players, allow the user to insert physical DVDs into the player and watch them on a TV display. Philips DVD players are relatively inexpensive for an electronic device, selling for under $100. For instance, the newest (as of summer 2020) 2017 Philips DVD player (the DVP2902/F7) sells for $49.99.

Philips DVD players are rectangular boxes. They are usually a neutral color and have the Philips logo printed somewhere on the encasing. Some Philips portable DVD players look like thick small laptops. They have a display attached to the DVD player itself that closes, just like a laptop display. Other Philips portable DVD players are essentially small TVs that attach to an antenna.
