Recently something not too light dropped on the side of my laptop.
Now when I hold to the side of the lid to close it, a portion of the screen turns dimmer than the other parts of the screen which has display on it and returns normal after let go of the lid
What could be the problem? A loose connection at that side or the whole assembly has to be replaced?

Raph, this could be caused by a bad transformer on your inverter board, broken wiring or a broken backlight. Unless you take it apart and take a look at it, it will only be a guess.
