I just recently found my Zune

I recently found my Zune after about 3 or 4 years of not having it, and bought a charging cord for it. I am seriously out of the loop. I am in the process of charging it, but I have forgotten how to use it>.<! How does that happen?? I know it will all come back to me if I can even get it to turn on. I am thinking I may need to replace the battery, but are zune's even serviced by Microsoft anymore? Everytime I click on a Zune website link, it brings up XBOX 360. There is nothing on the Microsoft Website for Zune at all unless you really dig and go searching high and low. I know there is pandora and all of those music streaming but I miss my Zune!! Please tell me that it's not obsolete and that I will still be able to use it! :( ( I worked hard for my Zune..)

Hi @dollymay ,

You are correct. After this amount of time the battery has been depleted to a point where it cannot be recovered and needs to be replaced.

Here is the ifixit Microsoft Zune 80 Battery Replacement guide to help you replace the battery

Here is a link to just one supplier of the battery. It is not a recommendation to use them. It is shown to give an idea of the cost of the part. There are other suppliers online that may suit you better. Just search for X814399-001 to get results.

Here is a link to download the User Guide for Zune Players. Click on Download, tick checkbox next to Zune Player\zuneplayers.pdf, click Next and it will be downloaded to your computer. (ignore the Surface Pro website page that is being shown, watch your downloads appearing on your browser page).

Hopefully you will get it going and then are able to enjoy it again.

Thank you so much. I got it working, but yeah the battery is bad. lol. I can't unplug it from my computer. How can I sync it with a MAC? Is there anything out there now that would allow me to sync it? Or do I have to go buy a Windows xbox to sync it? When you type Zune in Google XBOX comes up. I just want to be able to remove some of the songs that are on it, and be able to add. My son has an xbox so if I can only sync it with that I can wait till I can get to where he is to sync it.

Hi @dollymay ,

I'm sorry but I don't know Mac at all. Can't you just connect it to the Mac and use a a file manager program (in Windows it is Windows Explorer) to "browse the files" in the player and then just copy the ones that you want?

Perhaps @avanteguarde may know.

I did sync it to my fiance's computer and I was able to download the software. I couldn't get the songs to sync. I am going to keep working on it. Once I replace the battery I think it will be better.

I STILL use my Zune(s) I have 4. They are still (in 2019) the best source for listening to music. Not as bulky as a phone. The best software for music collection management. I use it on my Media Server at home. It is so sad that poorly designed devices like iPods with their terrible navigation spinning-wheel thing killed this wonderful product. Tests proved that the Zune had/has far superior sound to the iPod. When I go for walks I use my Zunes (Zune 120, Zune 80, 2x Zune HDs). Nobody ever heard of Zunes in the 2000s. I felt like I was the only evangelist for them. There's no app on any smart phone that works as smoothly. For Android there is an app called "Z-Player" which simulates the Zune environment fairly well - so I'd check that out if your Zune finally dies.

I am not 100% sure this works with a regular Zune, but here is the method for a Zune HD to sync on a Mac.

• Download Windows Phone 7 Connector Software

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download...

• Launch the software from Applications, then quit the application immediately.

• Open Terminal and type the following command.

[code defaults write com.microsoft.Windows-Phone-7-Connector ZuneEnabled -bool YES [/code]

• Hit "Enter" and launch the Windows Phone 7 Connector Software again, and it "should" work once you connect your Zune.

ok, I went to the link above,I downloaded it, and this is what it downloaded. Please download the released version of Windows Phone 7 Connector from the Mac App Store, using the following link - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=2...

I am able to use my Zune as long as it is plugged into my mac. I tried to sync it with my fiance's computer because his is Windows and that worked, sort of. I was able to download the software onto his computer, but the songs wouldn't sync. I am very technological literate so I am going to replace the battery, and then see what happens.
