Device encountered water damage

Hi, my phone accidentally fell into the toilet yesterday, i manage the save the phone within 5 seconds, i left it dry after i got home, although the power key and the AC cable won't work, so I open the back case and wait until the next day. My relative then help me to dismant the components in the device, well... it's quite dry inside, there are no signs of corrosion or any other parts that are broken or damage. My relative thinks that the battery short circuit because it has a quick flash after I retrieve the phone from the toilet, should I try and buy another battery to test it? If the battery won't work, should I also buy other new components and to test it? I was thinking if all of these components won't work, then I might consider buy a new phone.

Is this method ok? Or any other suggestions?

Thanks

蔡小珍 yes, replace the battery after you take care of the water damage.

Hi, i have put in the new battery, but it is flashing the red light. Is this normal?

Does the light blinks also have to do with the motherboard?

蔡小珍 treat this like you would treat any other water damaged device. The very first thing you want to do is to not try to restart/sync the phone. This may further damage your phone. The next thing to do is to clean it. Disassemble your phone using this video should help with that. You must remove all the EMI shields of the logic board. If you do not remove those you are not cleaning 3/4 of the board. Clean everything with +90% (no less than 90%) isopropyl alcohol. Follow this guide, and even so it was written for a 3G all the points are still pertinent to your phone. Pay particular attention to the SMD components, check for charred missing or broken missing. You can then dry the board in an oven or equivalent at 220deg F (not higher;-) for a few hours. Best way to clean it would of course be through an ultrasonic cleaner. Consider professional help with that When it is properly cleaned, replace the battery. All these steps are to avoid delayed failure caused by corrosion. Once all this is done, reassemble your phone and reevaluate.

The method is a good one, but corrosion on the motherboard will be easier to remove doing this:

Honestly, liquid damage can be a hit miss situation. The cheapest but an efficient way would be to grab Isopropyl alcohol (preferably 99%), and a tooth brush. Apply a small amount to the tooth brush a go around the areas affected, then let it evaporate for 10 minutes. Repeat this step at least 3 times. Before assembling, let it dry for around 20 minutes, and make sure any corrosion is gone.

Hi, can i leave the phone and to wait until tomorrow and see if it work?

Because the component is quite dry, and there are no corrosion in it.

Yes you can. If there is no corrosion and the phone is dry, you can test it. There is a possibility where other hardware components such as the camera, charge port, headphone etc, may need replacement. The first step is to get the device to power on, and then the next steps are to find what you may need to replace.

Because i haven't encountered this problem before, and I was so nervous that I pressed the power key to try after that, i am afraid that it might affect other component as well. So does it mean that the replacement of the components, i don't need to buy a new phone? Can it actually work?

Thanks

If the repair is successful, it will work. There are times where phones won't work after liquid damage. Sometimes it can be a hit or miss situation, but it's worth a try to get it back and alive.
