No service after screen replacement

Got given a P20 Pro to replace the LCD as it was not working, and was completely smashed on the back.

Replaced the screen, all starts fine, WiFi works but says no service.

Antenna is secured to the frame properly.

Coax cables are snapped in firmly and are not mixed up.

Tried resetting network settings

Cleared Cache

Performed factory reset.

Any other ideas?

Thanks

I had the same issue after bringing my P20 pro to a repair shop (replacement of the USB-C connector).

To make it simply, the antenna is suppose to be maintained by (thus below) the USB-C connector. Mine was just above... Of course on the top of the antenna there is the common mass, that is supposed to make contact thanks to the screw and the USB-C connector ground aswell...

Reassembling it is the right order fix my network issues. a mass not connected with an antenna... definitely make sense why i had no network anymore.

Hope it can help some of you, a little mistake in the assembly can occurs quite quickly and whitout proper neutral

This is the correct answer.

I realize this question is 4 years old but if people still find it from a google search they should be able to find the correct answer.

The antenna on the P20 Pro is very similar to the NFC antenna on select iPhone models. If you search this forum (or others), you see reports of the NFC no longer working after a parts replacement, and often the answer is that the parts were put back together in the wrong order (i.e. layering ribbon cable A on top of ribbon cable B instead of underneath). Fixing the order allows the grounding pins to make contact in the right place, and restores the connection.

In the P20 Pro, the ground for the antenna needs to be layered correctly with the USB charger port, or else you are grounding it to the USB port itself instead of the phone chassis. This is why the signal returns when a charger is plugged in.

Fixing the ground by putting it back together correctly will restore the signal.

Sounds like a broadband problem on the logic board

Fixable if someone can microsolder?

Customer isn't too fussed, as he just wanted the photos off the phone originally.

It is very strange that it happens to every person that do a screen or battery replacement....

This happened to me after screen replacement. Take your sim card out and flip it 180 and put it back in (face up to face down if that makes any sense)

Mine worked after that!

It happens after a battery replacement. These phones must detect the replacement battery. The phone just gets a poor signal indoors but works fine outside. I think I'm going to put the old battery back in and see of it makes a difference and I'll report back. I only replaced the battery because I was replacing the back for a customer.

Definitely, it is due to chinese bad quality chasis. In this phone, chasis is mostly the antenna. In my case, I took only the screen carefully grom chinese copy chasis and then glued the screen to original chasis. Now has fully signal and probled solved. Hope this help to someone, I was a lot of hours triying different things and my client was angry
