HP Pavilion 15-p Series Screen Replacement and Repair Queries

Hello iFixit Community,

I have an HP Pavilion 15-p series laptop (model 15-p243sa) and am encountering a few issues with it. Recently, I've noticed that the screen has developed a dark spot in the top right corner, despite having updated the BIOS and performed a factory reset. Unfortunately, I’m unable to connect the laptop to an external monitor to troubleshoot further.

I’m looking for guidance on the following:

  1. Has anyone experienced similar screen issues with the HP Pavilion 15-p series? If so, what was the solution?
  2. Is replacing the screen a feasible option for this model, and are there any specific procedures or tips for disassembling and replacing the screen?
  3. I’ve checked ifixit and other resources but haven’t found a detailed guide for this model. Are there any reliable repair guides or videos for similar models that could help?

Any advice or insights from those who have tackled similar repairs would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

Hi @jaymcpherson

It's a shame that you can't connect an external monitor (TV?) to check that it is either the screen or a motherboard problem

More than likely a dark spot in only one area of the screen, is a screen LED backlight problem so the LCD panel will have to be replaced.

Here's the maintenance and service guide taken from this HP support webpage for the laptop.

Go to p.55 to view the procedure to remove/replace the LCD panel.

On p.30 Item #3 you'll find the HP part number for all of the 15.6" LCD panel types that can be used in the model. Usually the part number can be found on the back of the LCD panel somewhere if you wish to verify which type is installed.

Search online for the part number appropriate to your particular model variant, to find suppliers that suit you best.
