Damaged circuit board connection during keyboard removal

I was following the instructions for keyboard replacement here: MacBook Pro 15" Core Duo Model A1150 Keyboard Replacement . I was following step 10. I did not have a spudger, so I attempted to use a plastic butterknife with the tip sanded down, but was not able to flip up the connector for the ribbon cable, so I tried using a very small flat-blade screwdriver. The connector wasn't flipping up. I am new at this, done something like it once before, replacing the screen on my son's PSP. I tried a little harder and half of the connector itself broke off from the circuit board to which the keyboard attaches. I've taken some photos of the damage:

I do seem to have put myself in big trouble. What is next? Can the board with the broken connector be replaced? Can it be repaired?

Hamfisted,

Morgan

Update

FWIW, I got a 2nd, used keyboard & top case and the install of that keyboard went smoothly. It was an expensive learning experience! I did the work myself, thanks to ifixit.

Just a quick comment: you listed the device as Model A1211, but you were using a Model A1150 repair guide. What's the correct model of your computer?

From the photos you posted it seems that four contacts points on the board need to be in contact with the ribbon. I wonder if a qualified tech could bridge them in soldering 4 small wires from the board to the ribbon. If you know an electronic shop in your area you could ask them if it can be done. It's micro soldering stuff but if you can save $250....

From what I can see you will have to replace the top case as the broken part is on the trackpad board and that is part of the upper case. Ralph

The guys above have the right solutions, but just so you know what went wrong:

If you look at the guide again, you'll notice that you tried to pry up the wrong side! The ribbon cable connector locks are on the other side of the connectors. They actually pop up rather easily with a fingernail if you don't have a spudger.

Matt, that would explain why they were so hard to open!

lemerise, I think I am going to get a local mac repair guy to finish the botched job with a used top case that he has on hand, looks like $200 + $90 labor. That's money that I can't afford, but I need this computer running. Not sure about soldering the contact back in place. Will ask about it...

Sterling, the mac is an A1211, went with the repair guide that seemed to match it, didn't know that there was a better match?

Embarrassed,

Morgan

Matt is correct, but it's not entirely your fault. The guide on ifixit is lacking that one very important detail. check: http://www.macworld.co.uk/mac/masterclas...

Hi, Guys!

I have the same problem (but MacBook Pro 15 A1226 - it has the same connectors there).

Please, check my picture with connectors - http://d.pr/znXs

But I didn't brake connectors, I just broke black coverage on it.

After that my keyboard and trackpad stopped working.

Can my mistake broke work of keyboard and trackpad or not?

If can - so I should buy new trackpad?

If can't - where should I found solution for keyboard and trackpad working.

P.S. Sorry for my bad English, I'm from Russia.
