Howdy! My name is Brendin Melo and I am a third year computer science student at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. While it is true that many of my peers have had a long history with computers before coming to college, in my case, it has been more recent. I have always loved to build and tinker with things as a kid. I always used to take old electronics and take them apart and see if I can put them back together.
More recently, I have had the opportunity to build a desk with my dad and grandfather. To see the thought, planning and passion that goes into making stuff like this really gave me a new appreciation for these things. It also allowed me to be able to make changes as I see fit, something that would not be possible if we hadn't made it ourselves and known what had gone into it. Coming from a family of carpenters, I have also had the opportunity to be able to not only work around my own house doing anything from small projects to big remodels, but I have also been able to help others in their own home as well. I hope to be able to bring this same kind of passion to our group guide so we can better help anyone that is trying to fix an old device!
