Display not Responding

The display not showing anything can be the case of a bad screen.

Dead Pixels

Sometimes pixels pop out of their place; lightly tapping the spot that they' re located will fix the issue. This might push the pixel back in, if not, then the best case is to replace the screen. Chances are that the pixel is sadly dead.

Improper Display

To check if it's not something internal, plug the laptop into a TV/Monitor. If something displays this will indicate a bad screen and it will need to be replaced. You can also check if the monitor is properly plugged into the motherboard as it could just possibly be loose.

When the computer is turned on. If the main screen is not responding even if you can see the side LEDs and the LEDs on the keyboard turned on.

Look for visual changes

Check the screen for any dents or markings on it. The likelihood that the screen is damaged to the point where it won't switch on is increased if there are marks or fractions on it. In this situation, a screen replacement is required.

Blue Screen of Death

A common malfunction that happens with a handful of devices

The computer has out-of-date drivers

To check if drivers are up to date:

  1. Click “Start.”
  2. Search for “Device Manager”
  3. Right-click on a specific driver.
  4. Click “Update.”

If you recently installed or updated hardware, right-click on the driver and click Disable Driver.

Restart the computer and see if the blue screen of death persists

The computer has Malfunctioning Memory

To check for memory errors:

  1. Click “Start.”
  2. Search for “Windows Memory Diagnostic.”
  3. Run Diagnostic.
  4. Restart the computer and see if it still persists.

Battery Not Charging

Even leaving it to charge for long enough time, the battery is still low.

Bad Adapter (charger)

Verify that the charge light is on, and the power adapter is plugged in. When an adapter is plugged in, but the light is not on, the adapter is defective. Think about getting a replacement adapter.

Not Retain Charging

Try a different charger to see if it's just a faulty adapter, then if the charge isn't being retained no matter how long it's left to charge, replacing the battery is the best case

Overheating

Doing basic tasks somehow leads to the fans kicking up at high speeds.

Dusty Fans

Excessive dust and other things lodged in the vents or fans can cause computers to overheat. To fix this, carefully clear the dust from the vents and fan with a compressed air duster.

Poorly Applied Thermal Paste

Sometimes thermal paste is applied poorly. You will need to unseat the heat sink, clean off the thermal paste with a cotton ball covered with isopropyl, then you can apply a rice size of thermal paste to the CPU.

No Power

No matter how many times the power button is pressed, nothing happens.

Inconsistent Charging Cable

Simply connect your charger to see if it is functioning or not, then look for the battery icon (bottom right of the monitor). The battery should be next to what seems to be a power connector in this icon. If you don't see this icon, your laptop or cable is not charging. Try attaching this wire to another charger if you have one and see if it sets. The original cord is ineffective if the second one charges your laptop.

Not Turning On

This can be an indicator of many things, RAM, battery, or even a bad power button.

Unusual Audio

Anything that sounds not normal or with no audio is being outputted.

Distorted Speaker

If the sound coming from the laptop is distorted or nonexistent, you should check your settings to ensure they are correct. Find the sound icon in the lower right corner of your screen. Make sure the volume is not muted and that it is turned up by clicking. If still persistent, the best bet is to replace.

Loose/Broken Headphone Jack

First, try playing audio through the speakers, to see if the audio is crisp and clear when heard. Check the headphones are sounding good on other platforms; if all is working, then the headphone jack will need to be replaced.

No Response from Touch pad

When using the touch pad, the cursor doesn't move no matter what.

Using the keyboard commands, check to see if the keyboard and any device managers are up to date in Windows settings if the touch pad isn't responding to your commands. The touch pad might need to be changed if it doesn't respond.

Computer Runs Slow

Loading certain things takes longer than normal. Even just booting up feels like an eon.

Full HDD

The hard drive may slow down the computer if it's full. Click My PC in File Explorer to see if the hard drive is full. Allowing 10% to 15% of the hard drive's free space for virtual memory and temporary files is a good idea. If the hard drive is more than 90% filled, you might need to replace it.

Insufficient RAM

It's likely that there isn't enough RAM. By launching the task manager and choosing the Performance tab, you can see how much RAM is currently being used. The amount of RAM that is currently being used is shown next to the Memory section. If the RAM usage rate is nearly 100%, there may not be enough memory and an update to the RAM drive may be necessary. You may find the instructions for replacing the RAM here.

Computer Needs to Reboot

Rebooting the computer might be necessary if it hasn't been done recently. If you are using Windows 10, left-click the Windows icon and then select the Power option in the menu that appears. From the menu that appears, choose "Restart." Before continuing with the next stage, do this.
