Asus Eee PC 1005PEB Troubleshooting

Something tells me turning it on and back off again isn't going to help you here.

Plug the power adapter into the computer and the wall outlet. If the charging indicator light on the bottom right of the computer lights up, then let the computer charge before turning it on. If this does not work, remove the battery from the computer. Connect the power adapter to the laptop and try to turn it on. If the computer turns on then the problem is a dead or broken battery and the battery will need to be replaced. Replacing the battery can be seen in this battery replacement guide.

Start by turning the Eee PC off. Then disconnect all devices plugged into the computer, including the power supply. Remove the battery from the computer so that no power sources are connected to it. Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds and then release it. Reconnect the battery and power supply to the computer, but no other devices, and try to turn it on again.

If the indicator lights on the bottom right of the laptop turn on when the power button is pressed, but the screen lights up and doesn't show any graphics, it is possible the display is broken and needs to be replaced. Contact Asus support to fix the display.

If the computer turns on, indicated by the lights on the bottom right corner of the laptop lighting up, but the error message "No operating system found" is displayed, the problem might be a corrupt windows install. You will need to reinstall windows. You may use this guide provided by Microsoft. If this does not fix the issue, keep reading.

If the computer turns on but does not boot into Windows and you get the error "No operating system found." It is possible you have a bad hard drive. If this is your issue and you have already tried reinstalling Windows as specified in the Corrupt windows install section above, then please refer to this hard drive replacement guide.

If all else fails, there is likely a problem with your motherboard. The laptop could have overheated, could have shorted out due to a liquid spill, or just simply lived past its lifetime. This is not easy to fix and will likely require service by Asus, as long as it is under warranty. If this is your situation, refer to and contact Asus through Asus's support page.

The computer turns on but it is difficult to see. Using a flashlight helps reveal the graphics on the screen.

It is possible that the brightness on the display is low enough that you are unable to see the screen. Use a flashlight or some other light source to light up the display. If you can see graphics on the display, try pressing Fn and F6 together on the keyboard a few times. You should also refer to this guide to manually change the brightness in windows. If this does nothing it is possible the backlight for the display is broken and the backlight will need to be replaced. Contact Asus support to fix the backlight.

Either Wi-Fi is not showing up in windows or the computer will not connect to Wi-Fi.

If your PC is unable to connect to the Internet, the Wi-Fi password you have entered may be wrong. For a quick guide on how to change the password, refer to this page.

Ensure that the Wi-Fi on the device is not disabled or turned off. Try pressing Fn and F2 at the same time of the keyboard. If this does not fix the issue, then you will need to manually enable the Wi-Fi device installed in your computer using device manager. To do this click the windows key on your keyboard. Then type device manager. Open device manager and click on the Network Adapters section. Right click the Wireless Network Adapter and click enable. If enable is not an option, then your Wi-Fi card is enabled and this is not the problem.

If after trying the other steps above, the computer will still not connect to the internet, the issue may be related to the wireless router. If you have access to the router, start by rebooting it; unplug the router for 10 seconds and then plug it back in. If the computer will still not connect, try connecting another device to the router. If this device cannot connect then the problem is likely the router. In this case, the router is either not setup properly, or it has broken and will need to be repaired or replaced.

The charge indicator does not light up and the computer will not work on just the battery.

If your Eee PC does not charge while plugged into the wall, which is indicated by a charge light seen on the bottom right of the computer, then the wall outlet the computer is plugged into could be broken. If you are using a power strip make sure the power strip is turned on and that it is properly connected. Try plugging in another device to the outlet your PC is plugged into. If this device receives power then the problem may be covered in another solution below.

If you have checked that the outlet the computer is plugged into is working, then the power adapter might be broken. Start by checking that the power cable is properly connected to the power brick. If this connection is lose, tighten the connection and plug it back into the computer. If this does not work, try to borrow another power adapter that is compatible with the computer and plug that one in. If the computer begins to charge then the power adapter you own is broken and needs to be replaced. These adapters can be purchased online.

If the power adapter and the wall plug are not the problem and the computer turns off when unplugged from the wall plug, then the issue is likely a broken battery. This can only be fixed by replacing the battery and is caused by age and broken components. If your device is under warranty, contact Asus to receive a new battery. When using the touchpad, the mouse on the screen doesn't move as expected or at all.

If the touch pad does not move the mouse at all on screen, but the computer responds to input from the keyboard, the touch pad might be disabled. To fix this issue enable the touchpad using the keyboard. To do this, press Fn and F3 at the same time on the keyboard. If this does not fix the issue, click the windows key on your keyboard. Then type device manager. Open device manager and click on the Mice and other pointing devices section. Right click the touchpad device and click enable. If enable is not an option, then your touchpad is enabled and this is not the problem.

If the touchpad is enabled but still does not work as expected, the touch pad driver might be corrupt. To fix this click the windows key on your keyboard. Then type device manager. Open device manager and click on the Mice and other pointing devices section. Right click on the touchpad device and click update driver software. Then click search online. Let it install the updated driver if it finds one. If it does not find a driver, right click the touchpad device and click uninstall and reboot your computer. The computer will reinstall the driver and should clear up the issue.

If the touchpad is not disabled and updating/reinstalling the driver does not fix the issue, then the touchpad might be broken. Contact Asus support to fix this issue since they will have the parts needed to fix or replace the touchpad.

You press keys on the keyboard, but nothing happens and mashing the keyboard is not an effective solution.
