Got this as a gift from a friend. The beater shaft (the part that holds all of the attachments) isnt in the machine. I am assuming its an easy fix. Any help is appreciated.

Here's some information that may help.
A parts diagram showing the beater shaft (click on Case, Gearing and Planetary parts diagram - see item #28) and also the ifixit KitchenAid Professional 600 Bevel Gear Replacement guide that shows how to get access to the top of the beater shaft
Hopefully by using both you can fix it.
