Background
Beyerdynamic is a microphone, headset, and wireless-audio-system manufacturer, founded in Germany in 1924. Beyerdynamic was acquired by the Chinese firm Cosonic Intelligent in 2025.
Beyerdynamic initially manufactured loudspeakers for cinemas. Beyerdynamic developed its first headphone, the DT 48, and first microphone, the M 19, in 1937. The company's first wireless microphone debuted in 1962. Many famous bands and artists toured with Beyerdynamic microphones, including ABBA, the Beatles, and Elton John.
Beyerdynamic was the first manufacturer to make dynamic headphones with the DT 48 in 1937, which remained in production for 75 years until 2012. In 1970 Beyerdynamic introduced the ET 1000, its first electrostatic headphones. By 1980 the company introduced the DT 880, a 600 ohm impedance headphone marketed as comparable to electrostatic headphones. Beyerdynamic's DT 770 Pro was released in 1985 and became a studio legend. The Amiron Home headphones and the Byron IEMs won a What Hi-Fi? award each in 2017. In 2025, the Amiron 300 and Aventho 300 won the Red Dot Design Awards.
Today Beyerdynamic makes over-ear and on-ear headphones, IEMs, and earbuds for gaming, traveling, and studio environments.
