Keyboard or Mouse is not Working Properly

Keyboard or mouse isn't responsive, or gestures are inaccurate.

If the keys or mouse pad are unresponsive and lagging, you may have to replace the key drive. If the keys are stuck or sticking when you press them, that is an indication that your keyboard may need to be cleaned. You’ll need to do a deep clean of the keyboard and mouse pad. See the keyboard replacement guide.

Broken Screen

Screen is cracked or otherwise isn't functional.

A cracked screen will have to be completely replaced, either by sending it to the manufacturer or by replacing it yourself. A screen with lines/pixels or completely black indicates that there's a graphic rendering issue. To fix this issue, turn your PC completely off and let it reset before turning it back on again. See the screen replacement guide.

Battery

Laptop won't function when disconnected from a charger, or battery life is very short.

If the battery does not power at all or hold a charge, consider that it may be the adapter that's the issue. If you’re sure it’s not the charger, check that the battery is installed correctly. Use the battery replacement guide to open up the device and make sure it’s installed correctly. If it still will not hold a charge or power up, the battery needs to be replaced altogether. See our battery replacement guide.

External Devices such as Headphones, Keyboard, or Mouse Do Not Work

USB devices aren't being recognized when plugged in, or disconnect frequently.

If you’re plugging in external devices and they won’t connect or work at all first make sure the ports are clean and free of debris, because dust or debris could clog the port and not let it connect. Second consider the condition or troubleshooting of the external devices. If the ports still do not work, the motherboard may need to be replaced. See our motherboard replacement guide.

Frozen Screen

Chrome OS not responding.

If your screen is completely frozen and unresponsive, try doing a hard reboot. This means turning it all the way off and on again. This can be done by unplugging external devices (such as keyboards or mouse) then holding the power button for at least seven seconds. This will will give full reboot. If this does not solve the issue, use our guide on replacing your screen, or our guide on replacing the motherboard.

Wi-Fi not Connecting

Can't connect to wireless internet.

If your device is not connecting to the Wi-Fi, it's possible your Wi-Fi card is faulty and need to be replaced. But perform basic checks before replacement to see if that can resolve the issue.

Consider taking a look at our Chromebook Not Connecting to Wifi Troubleshooting Guide to perform basic checks for WiFi issues.

If the Wi-Fi card needs replacement, take a look at our official guide to replace your Wi-Fi card.
