Device Will Not Charge

Device will not power on or hold a charge.

Faulty Power Adapter

Check that the AC power adapter is plugged into an outlet and the light is on. If the light is not on the power adapter may be faulty and should be replaced.

Plugged In, Not Charging

If you receive the “Plugged In, Not Charging” prompt on your device then the battery may have a poor connection. You can start by removing the battery and placing it back in the device. If the issue persists then the battery may need to be replaced by following this guide.

Failure To Connect To Wireless Network

Device will not connect to network connections.

Not Enough Power Supply

Check the router connection ( WAN light) if it is steady. Unplug the power cable and plug it in again. Reset all the wires and restart the router again to test it.

Dusty Router Connectors

Unplug all cables and clean up the connector using the cleaning kit.

Too Many Devices Connected to the Same Network

Restart your router. Check your connection. Your laptop location can also affect your connection.

Poor Performance

Device responds slower to simple functions than normal.

Viruses or Malware

Run your anti-virus software and clean out spam files or files that is no uses. Restart the laptop and test it again.

Outdated RAM

We can easily upgrade the RAM from 4GB to 8GB to improve the overall performance. Consider purchasing a new replacement.

Clogged Cooling System

Carefully take the back of the laptop apart. Clean up the fan and the air path using the Pro tech toolkit and the cleaning kit.

Unresponsive Keyboard

The keys in your keyboard are either stuck and cannot be pressed, or your keyboard will not respond to your typing.

Dirty Keyboard

When having an unresponsive keyboard with sticky keys, the first thing you should do is properly clean your keyboard. To do this you need to access underneath the keys. Most laptop keys are made to be taken off, so carefully pry off each key.

After the keys are removed, use so multi-purpose cleaner and a microfiber cloth and clean out underneath the keys, making sure to wipe away all of the residue. Pop the keys back into their respected place and after powering on the laptop, attempt to use the keyboard. If this method works, you have found your solution, if not, continue reading this guide for more possible solutions.

Disabled Keyboard

If you tried cleaning your keyboard first, or you did not need to, and the problem was still not fixed, then the keyboard driver could have been disabled. In order to enable it, you need to access your computers device manager page. To get there, right click the start button (Windows 7 and below) or right click the windows start logo (Windows 8 and 10), and locate device manager in the list that was generated.

Once open, a page will display all of the devices installed on your computer. Scroll down and double click “keyboard” to expand, right click the driver name, and select ENABLE. If the enable option is not there, and instead DISABLE is displayed, this is not the solution for you. If ENABLE is there and your keyboard still does not work, there is still a possible solutions for you.

Outdated Drivers

Having outdated drivers is a common problem as to why a device might not work, especially for keyboards. In order to check if your driver is up to date, you need to access your laptops device manager page. To get there, right click the start button (Windows 7 and below) or right click the windows start logo (Windows 8 and 10), and locate device manager in the list that was generated.

Once open, a page will display all of the devices installed on your computer. Scroll down and double click “keyboard” to expand, right click the driver name, and locate UPDATE DRIVER. Once downloaded your laptop will need to be restarted and your laptop should be fixed. If not, please follow the next solution to hopefully find the proper diagnosis.

Reinstalling Drivers

If your driver is already up to date, or updating the driver did not work, your next option is to uninstall and reinstall the keyboard device driver. To do this, you need access to your laptops device page. To get there, right click the start button (Windows 7 and below) or right click the windows start logo (Windows 8 and 10), and locate device manager in the list that was generated.

Once open, a page will display all of the devices installed on your computer. Scroll down and double click “keyboard” to expand, right click the driver name and select UNINSTALL. After uninstalling the driver, restarting your laptop will automatically install the proper keyboard driver and your problem should be solved. If not then you might need to replace the entire keyboard, to do so follow this guide to take out and replace the existing keyboard with a new one.

Black Screen of Death

The Black Screen of Death is a notorious problem for an many laptops. This is when your computer screen will turn on, and even make startup sounds, but the screen will remain black .

Electrical Discharge

A common reason and a rather simple solution to this problem is that your device needs to be electrically discharged. The reason this could be a solution is because overtime your computers hard drive will build up static electricity which interferes with the laptop and causes it to power on, but the hard drive doesn’t engage causing a blank screen . To fix this, simply power down your device by holding the power button for 10-15 seconds. Once powered off you need to remove the battery. If you do not know how to do this, follow steps 1 through 3 of this guide to find out how to do so.

Once the battery is removed press and hold the power button for an additional 60 seconds Now, power on your device (without the battery in) by making sure you are plugged into a power source. Your display should reappear, if it does, power off the device, replace the battery and you should be good as new. If this method did not work be sure to review the other methods to insure a proper diagnosis.

Broken LCD Display

If the above method did not work you could have a broken or damaged LCD display. To check this you need to connect your device to an external monitor and see if the display pops up. To do this simply connect an HDMI cord from your laptop to the external monitor while both devices are powered on and see what happens. If your display pops up, you have a damaged LCD display. If it does not you have a motherboard issue and you should skip ahead to the next possible solution. For those whose screen was displayed on the second monitor, follow this guide for steps to replace the LCD display.

Broken/Damaged Motherboard

If you followed the steps in the previous diagnosis for “Broken LCD Display” and your device did not pop up on the external monitor, then you most likely have a damaged or broken motherboard. Unfortunately, you will need to replace the motherboard, to do this, follow this video guide for help on taking our your motherboard.

Audio Output is Distorted

The audio coming out of the speakers is muffled/distorted.

Audio is Enhanced

In the audio settings of the laptop, there are options to enhance or change the audio outputs. Go through the options and make sure all of the enhancements are disabled.

Audio Driver is Out of Date

Check the audio section of the device manager to see if there are any updates available. If there are, open the audio driver option and click update. A new audio driver can also be installed using the given instructions from whichever company is chosen.

Speakers are Blown Out

Insert headphones or external speakers through the audio jack. If they work, the laptop’s speakers need to be replaced. Follow this replacement guide to install new speakers here. Note that this link is for a different type of the Toshiba Satellite but the steps are relatively the same.
