Spilt tea into MacBook Pro

I have spilt water (in the form of herbal tea, no milk) into my MacBook Pro. I have taken it into Apple and they have said $2700 to fix it. When it happened the MacBook immediately turned itself off and now will not turn on or recognise the power lead. I currently have the back taken off it and it is sitting in the sun. I am not a techie so have no idea how to remove the battery or if this is even safe to do. Would be very grateful for some advice.

You need to find out how deep the water got. The first thing that happens is the keyboard shorts out. That is fairly inexpensive report although time consuming. If it got to the logic board your changes of reviving it are greatly diminished. So open it, disconnect the battery and do a visual first.

Your motherboard will have shorted itself. The water will allow certain components and connections to connect to others when they are not meant to, and broken the motherboard.

Water damage fix usually involves dipping devices in 99% isopropyl alcohol, as this forces out the water. Then it evaporates. This may be a fix for you, but most likely the damage is already done and certain chips are broken.

A lot of computer repair shops actually have no clue about computers beyond installing an operating system and drivers, so it may not be so easy to find a computer shop that can perform repairs on specific chips.
