There are actually two versions of the Dell Latitude 3540. The original was released in October 2013 as a replacement to the Latitude 3530. It would later be re-released in 2023 with a much more modern take and sleeker design.

2013 Dell Latitude 3540 purpose was to serve as a fleet machine for small-to-medium businesses and institutions. This version was defined by Intel's 4th generation of processors which ranged from the i3 to i7. These processors significantly improved the battery life of the machine to its predecessor 3530. Noteworthy features during its release was the optional anti-glare display which was uncommon at the time. Additionally, it included some features which are gone with modern laptops including removable batteries and optical drives. However, there where some common complaints which was including a VGA port instead of an HDMI port which made presenting very difficult.

This revival of the 2013 still serves as the essential fleet laptop for businesses and institutions. However, it has been redesigned for a more modern world; featuring 13th generation Intel processors, USB-C, Bluetooth 5.3, and WiFi. This is also one of the last models produced by Dell to still include a Ethernet RJ-45 port and numeric keypad. Common complaints this model has over its predecessor in 2013 is the Intel 13th processors forcing the fans to 100% which becomes noisy in office environments, a more flimsy frame, and display quality being too dim.

Check the bottom base cover for a 7-character alphanumeric Service Tag or Express Service Code. It should be located right above the external vent.
